What is Call Mabel and how does it work?

+

Call Mabel is an AI companion-calling service for adults 60+ and their families. Mabel is a warm AI voice who calls on any regular phone — no app, no device. She remembers your stories and conversations across calls, asks about your day, and is there as a daily presence. Voice-based emergency detection, real-time family alerts, and the full medication-reminder workflow are actively in development and not deployed yet — see our /safety page for what is and isn't live today. Setup takes 10 minutes over a single phone call.

How much does Call Mabel cost?

+

Does Call Mabel replace my doctor or an in-home caregiver?

+

No. Call Mabel is a complement to medical care, not a replacement. Mabel helps you prepare for doctor visits, debriefs after them, reminds you about medications, and catches early warning signs — but she does not diagnose, treat, or provide physical care. For hands-on needs (bathing, wound care, mobility support), an in-home caregiver or home health aide is the right choice. Mabel works wonderfully alongside them.

What is the Digital Life Vault — and is my information encrypted on every plan?

+

Two things, and the first one matters most: on EVERY plan, everything you put into Call Mabel — insurance, accounts, medical info, documents, last wishes — is encrypted with bank-level security (TLS 1.2+ in transit, AES-256 at rest) and is yours to view and download anytime you are signed in. Your data is never locked away and never stored unencrypted, regardless of which plan you are on. The Premier "Digital Life Vault" is a separate, additional layer that is coming soon: it lets you invite family members, an executor, or an attorney and give each of them access to only the sections you choose, has Mabel help fill it in during her calls, sends expiration alerts, and keeps family access available when it is needed most. So the difference is not whether your data is safe or reachable (that is true for everyone) — it is who else you let in, and how. Think of your plan as your own private, encrypted filing cabinet, and the Premier Vault as the part that lets the right family reach the right drawer at the right time.

Is my data safe? How does Call Mabel protect my information?

+

Your data is treated with healthcare-grade security: bank-level encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+), encryption at rest, strict access controls, audit logs, and regular security reviews. We never sell your data to advertisers, third parties, or anyone else. You can request full deletion of your data at any time by emailing hello@callmabel.com — we honor those requests within 30 days. Your stories, health info, and family details stay yours. Call Mabel is a direct-to-consumer service and is not a HIPAA-covered healthcare provider, so HIPAA-specific consumer rights do not apply; your information is protected by our contractual commitments and applicable consumer privacy laws.

Can I try Call Mabel for free before subscribing?

+

Yes. Every visitor can talk to Mabel for free directly from our homepage — click the "Talk to Mabel" button. You'll get a live voice conversation with the real Mabel AI, no signup required. There's no trial period after subscription, but you can cancel anytime with no questions asked.

Does Call Mabel work on a regular phone? No smartphone needed?

+

Yes — any landline or mobile phone works. Mabel calls like any other caller. No smartphone, tablet, wearable, or smart speaker is needed. Families who want extra features (family dashboard, document vault, brain games) can access those through a web browser — but the core Mabel experience is 100% phone-based for seniors.

What happens if Mabel detects an emergency?

+

If Mabel hears something concerning during a call (a fall, sharp new pain, breathing trouble, mental-health crisis), she places an automated voice call to your family alert contacts — up to 3 in priority order, with DTMF Press 1 to acknowledge or Press 2 to pass to the next person. The same logic fires after 3 missed scheduled calls in a row. This is LIVE today on every plan. What is still being built: voice-acoustic distress detection (listening to HOW you sound, not just what you say) and direct 911 dialing on Mabel's side. For any real, happening-right-now emergency, always call 911 directly — Mabel is supplemental, not a substitute.

Can I cancel anytime?

+

Yes, with one click from your billing dashboard — no phone tag, no "please stay" scripts, no cancelation fees. Your access stays active through the end of your current billing period. If you paid annually, you can request a prorated refund within the first 30 days.

Who are "Mabel & Friends"? Do I have to use them all?

+

Mabel is the main companion, but every plan unlocks specialized "Friends" — Clara (memory games), Vince (movement), Max (organizer), Hank (home helper), and more. You never have to use them. They're there if a day calls for a specialist. Most users stick mostly with Mabel and occasionally chat with a Friend when the moment fits.

How is Call Mabel different from assisted living, Papa, or Life Alert?

+

Assisted living costs $5,000–$10,000/month and requires moving out of the home. In-home caregivers cost $4,000–$8,000/month and only help when present. Papa connects you to rotating human "pals" who usually do not know your history. Life Alert requires wearing a pendant — and surveys show 80%+ of seniors eventually stop wearing the pendant, which makes it useless when it matters. Call Mabel starts at $29.97/month, keeps you in your home, remembers every detail of every conversation, and works on the phone your parent already answers. It is not the same category — it is a new one. See honest side-by-side comparisons at callmabel.com/compare.

Can family members access my Call Mabel account?

+

Yes — and this is one of the most-loved features. Family members get their own dashboard login with configurable permissions. They can add to Mabel's notebook (family birthdays, favorite stories, upcoming events), receive safety alerts, view call summaries, and co-manage appointments. You control exactly who can see what. The Family plan supports up to 3 members; Premier supports unlimited.

What languages does Mabel speak?

+

Mabel speaks English today, with warm Southern and general American accents available. Spanish is in active development (expected 2026). If you need another language, email us — we prioritize the requests we hear most.

How do I sign up?

+

Go to callmabel.com/subscribe. Pick your plan, check the agreement box, enter your email, and complete checkout. It takes about three minutes. After signup, you'll receive a welcome email and Mabel will call within 24 hours to introduce herself and learn about you or your aging parent.

Does Medicare cover Call Mabel?

+

Not currently. Medicare covers specific medical services (doctor visits, short-term rehab, medical equipment) but not daily companion services. We may offer Medicare Advantage coverage in the future as we expand partnerships with plans. For now, Call Mabel is direct-pay subscription starting at $29.97/month.
